On 10 March 2026, partners of the VR Health Champions project met in Budapest for the Mid-term Review Meeting, hosted at the premises of InnoStars, one of the project partners. The gathering brought together consortium members, SMEs and stakeholders to review progress, discuss ongoing work and set priorities for the next six months of the project.
The meeting offered an opportunity to take stock of the progress achieved so far and discuss priorities for the next phase. Partners aligned on the main objectives for the coming months and reflected on how to maintain effective cooperation across the consortium as the project moves into its second half.
“Reaching the mid-point of the project gave us a valuable moment to reflect on what has been achieved so far and to plan the next steps together,” said Cristian Costa, Project Coordinator at IPN. “In the coming months we will focus on further developing the XR solutions and strengthening cooperation with partners and stakeholders so that these innovations can move closer to real-world use in healthcare.”
Coordination within the consortium remains steady, supported by regular meetings and ongoing communication between partners. This helps keep activities aligned and ensures that project work is shared across the partnership.
Work is progressing across several areas, including the development of XR-based solutions for healthcare and the exploration of how immersive technologies can support training and education for medical professionals.
At the same time, partners are addressing regulatory and market aspects that will support the future uptake of these innovations in healthcare systems. The consortium also reviewed progress made by the five flagship SMEs involved in the project: .Lumen, MedApp S.A., MEEVA, Metaskills and Virtuleap, whose solutions are gradually moving towards testing and validation.
“Projects such as VR Health Champions demonstrate how collaboration across Europe can accelerate the development of innovative healthcare technologies,” noted Kirill Dimanopoulos, Project Adviser at the European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA). “The progress presented at the mid-term review shows that the consortium is moving in a strong direction and working towards solutions with real potential for practical use in healthcare.”
VR Health Champions continues to strengthen a growing European network focused on extended reality in healthcare, bringing together partners from different regions and innovation ecosystems.
As the project moves into its next phase, the focus will remain on further development, collaboration with stakeholders and preparing solutions for future real-world application.
